To make all men see….. Ephesians 3:9

Society (11) – The Solution to Sin

As we’ve gone through this series, we have looked at the difficulty many churches today face concerning how they should deal with certain sins. While some subtly or openly accept them, others treat them as unforgivable – or at least those who practice them as pariahs.

But God has always treated sin with grace and truth. The truth part is that sin must always be punished, and the punishment for it is death. This death is both physical and spiritual. The grace part of it is that Jesus Christ suffered both the physical and spiritual death penalty, and God imputes that suffering and death to any who trust in it for their salvation.

Churches should never judge anyone who walks through their door. Local churches exist to love and help sinners. It doesn’t matter what they have done or where they are at in their personal life when they contact us. We don’t care about that. What we do care about is that first they hear the gospel. After they hear the gospel, if they believe it, it is our job to help them understand what God has made them in Christ. Even though they don’t feel it, they have been made a new creature. That is the beginning of their solution to their sin.

We should then instruct them on how to live as that new creature, not by any set of rules, laws, or man-made standards. They live as that new creature by learning the scriptures, applying them to their lives, and looking above spiritually instead of at their fleshly desires. Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Gal 5:24-25 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. And today that Spirit can be found in the Word of God, rightly divided.
