Many Christian churches seem to be moving in different directions on many sins. While some churches seem to be following society, condoning political correct sins, other churches treat those same sins as though they are worse than any other. The churches that condone these sins, sometimes in a subtle way and sometimes outright, claim that these transgressions are different because it is in the nature of those that commit them. It is who they are.
The problem with this approach is that it ignores scripture. We are all sinners until we trust the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross as payment for our sins. After that, we are no longer sinners in the eyes of God – we are in Christ.
Paul, when writing to the Corinthians, gives a list of sins, some of which he has rebuked the Corinthians for committing. But then he says this: 1Cor 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. Once one trusts Christ as their Savior, they are then identified in Christ. They are no longer sinners of any type, even though they commit sins.
So saying that a certain type of sin identifies a saint as that sin is not true. They are in Christ and a new creature. On the flip side of that, designating certain sins as worse than others and treating those that do them as more unrighteous than others is also a fallacy. The number one sin on the list that God hates is pride, not homosexuality, divorce, drunkenness or etc.
We shouldn’t care about where or what a person seems to be, we should concentrate on helping them grow in Christ and focusing on things above. Col 3:1-3 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
