Satan doesn’t work alone. He has other fallen angels in his army. They are called devils in the scripture. They were responsible for the creation of pagan religions for the purpose of keeping people from finding God. They were represented by the idols that were created.
Their religious systems flourished until the Son of God was manifest in the flesh. At that time they congregated in the land promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to thwart what they believed was God’s coming assault to take back the earth.
But there are other spirits that aren’t necessarily under Satan’s command. They empower individuals and leaders of kingdoms and nations. They work for the enrichment or influence of people through sorcery, witchcraft, divinations and so on. Sometimes they even do God’s bidding.
