This message is a slight detour from the main subject to answer a question that came up.
Colossians 1:20 says: And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
How does God reconcile all things unto Himself if there is eternal judgement? Does that verse mean that all will eventually be saved, including Satan and the fallen angels? This is the doctrine of universal reconciliation, and it is inconsistent with the rest of scripture.
Understanding that reconciliation has two meanings and seeing how those meanings are used explains this verse very simply. Which definition of reconcile is used depends on the faith of the ones being reconciled.
