To know God’s will, we must first know His ‘doctrine’ according to John 7:16-17. Doctrine is the principles of what is taught. 
So to find God’s will, we begin by looking at the principles which He teaches. Any doctrine, including God’s will be found in the words spoken by the propagator of that doctrine. God’s doctrine, and therefore His will, is to be found in His Word.
In God’s Word, we have His mind. Knowing God’s mind allows us to know His will. God’s will can be found by learning the doctrine that reveals His mind. This doctrine is revealed to man through the inspired Word of God. Therefore, the only place in which God’s will is to be found is in His Word.
