A Short History of the English Bible gives a very abbreviated history of where our English Bible came from and how it came to be corrupted. John Wycliffe first translated the Bible into the English language from the Latin Vulgate. William Tyndale was the first to begin translating the Bible into English using the original languages. He translated and published the New Testament before he was put to death, and had translated much of the Hebrew Old Testament. The Matthews Bible was mainly his translation and that of John Roberts. Miles Coverdale translated his version, then translated the first official Bible in English, The Great Bible. Then came the Geneva Bible, The Bishop’s Bible, and finally the King James Bible. More on this history can be found here. The major corruptions to the English Bible came about surreptitiously by a group of English clergy led by Westcott and Hort. For a complete analysis of the Greek New Testament that they invented, John Burgon’s book, The Revision Revised is available in many formats for free download.
