The Offices of Jesus Christ

In this series we look at the different positions, or ‘offices’, held by Jesus Christ. He is God, Jehovah, Messiah prophet, priest, king, saviour, and etc. Each of these positions are important to understand in light of the fact that God’s eternal purpose is to ‘gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth.’

For Jesus to be the saviour of all, he must be identified as Jehovah and God. Christ saves us from death. Death came because of sin, so he saves us from sin. Christ is the Head over all principalities and powers. He is also the Head cornerstone and foundation over all those who have trusted in him. And he is the Head of the church, the body of Christ.

The Offices of Jesus Christ (6) – King

As Creator, Jesus Christ is the King of all creation. As Redeemer, Jesus Christ is King over all those who have been redeemed by his blood. As perfect descendant of Abraham and David, Jesus Christ is the physical King of Israel.

Different priesthoods in the Bible include the Levitical priesthood, Melchisedec, and priesthoods of idolatrous gods. Jesus Christ was a priest after the order of Melchisedec because the Levitical priesthood could not bring perfection. Jesus Christ was also from the tribe of Judah, not Levi, so he could not have been a Levitical priest. Christ was a priest after the order of Melchizadec.…

A prophet is one who speaks or writes God’s inspired words. This is demonstrated many times over in prophetic scripture. Christ was prophesied to be The Prophet, and as a man he spoke the words given to him by his Father.

Jesus Christ is not only the Son of God, but also the Son of man. That title is used of him over 80 times in the new testament. That title and office gives him the right to sit on the throne of David, because he is descended from Abraham and David. It also gives him the right and power to forgive sins.…
